Deep Night (Jinghu & Guzheng Music)
Arrangement: Wu Hua, Wang Zhongshan
Jinghu Performer: Ai Bing
Guzheng Performer: Shang Jingya
Drummer: Zheng Yu
The melody “Deep Night ” is often used as an accompaniment for the sword dance of Yu Ji in the Beijing opera “Farewell My Concubine”, as well as for the drumming of Ni Heng in the play “Hit the Drum and Curse Cao”.
It takes the form of music to express the qualities of loyalty and toughness, which has been embodied in traditional Chinese culture and passed down for thousands of years.
In “Deep Night”, the Chinese zither and Jinghu (high-pitched Chinese bowed string instrument) form an interesting dialogue, and depict a vivid sword-dancing picture of Yu Ji, the concubine of Xiang Yu (Overlord of Western Chu).
